The Forge
The Forge is where blacksmiths make horseshoes and metal tools. To make all of the horseshoes and tools, blacksmiths needed a anvil – an iron object that blacksmiths used to shape some metals. For other metals, like bronze, in a furnace they use a process called smelting. Blacksmiths smelt metals by putting the ore into moulds. Then they would put it into the furnace and it would act like a big oven. Then the ore would turn into metal and it would dry in two or three minutes.
The Forge was around in the 1800s and 1900s as a local smithing place but now it is used as a public lavatory opposite to the Old School.
