Bishopsteignton Heritage in partnership with 1st Bishopsteignton Scouts – The Nuttery
Part of the legacy left by Molly Coombe was a small parcel of land on Forder Lane known as The Nuttery.
Bishopsteignton Heritage Trust has tried over the years to find a local community group that could use the land in a sustainable and productive way, but without much success.
However, under the leadership of Sally Livett, 1st Bishopsteignton Scouts have agreed to use the area for their outdoor activities and a rent-free agreement has now been signed! The trustees and the team at Bishopsteignton Heritage wish the Scouts well in their venture and look forward to hearing all about their activities.
What to expect in 2022
2022 holds the potential to be our best year yet! We will be continuing our exciting digitisation project to get you closer to the archives, wherever you are. The Heritage Hub in the village Community Centre is being decorated in anticipation of re-opening (when its safe and we have enough volunteers to open at regular times). We will also re-styling our website this year so keep your eye on us!
We will also be taking 2022 to prepare events, collaborations and exhibitions for the 50th anniversary of Bishopsteignton Primary School in November 2023. We will be working with the school to tell the story of education in the village from humble 18th century beginnings right up to the present day.
Other exiting opportunities for collecting material and sharing it with you through exhibitions, talks and online are many; from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to the exciting new Bishopsteignton Pantomime group! We will also benefit from the new availability of the 1921 census online.

We are recruiting for Village Diarist volunteers to record local events (in words and photos) from fetes, lectures, meetings and celebrations to the wonderful things that happen in Bishopsteignton every day from how village walks look in winter to an evening at the pub!
