People
This category can feature individuals or groups of individuals from the parish. They may be portraits or people engaged in any activity. Photos in this category can be taken anywhere geographically – for example a village person receiving an award or taking part in a sporting event outside of the village.
Places
Photos in this category can be taken anywhere within the parish boundries. Examples could include the exterior or interior of buildings, views from a vantage point, businesses past and present etc.
Events
Could be village activities, recent or past, like the Coronation and Jubilee celebrations or the Village Festival, Village Show, live music or other performances etc or more personal events such as significant birthdays or Dot’s leaving do at the Bishop John for example.
Environment
This might be related to the flora or fauna within the parish or possibly views that have an environmental aspect to them, making them more suitable here than the places category – countryside, farming, derelict buildings.
New for 2024 – Youth Category
This year we introduced a £50 youth prize for 10 – 17 year olds to submit photos from any of the above categories. (Under 16s needed permission of a parent or guardian).
Judging
All photographs were judged on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the heritage and personality of Bishopsteignton Parish
- Originality

- Technical ability
Judging was again carried out by the Bishopsteignton Heritage editorial team and guest judges Ken Irvin, David Mitchel and Nigel Hicks. Ken is a renowned local artist and an ex Trustee and Chair of Bishopsteignton Heritage, David is chair of Bishopsteignton Photo Club and has been a keen photographer since his first Box Brownie and right through the digital age.
